1865 Juneteenth Fest Ignites West Side Chicago with Culture, Celebration & Community Power
This year’s 1865 Juneteenth Fest brought a wave of pride, purpose, and party vibes to Chicago’s Garfield Park, delivering two unforgettable days of music, movement, and meaningful community engagement. With a lineup that blended youth energy with soulful nostalgia, the fest served as a powerful reminder of what Juneteenth truly represents—freedom, resilience, and joy.
Day One: Youth Day – Thursday, June 19th
The opening day celebrated youth empowerment through entertainment and health-focused activities. Performers like DLOW, Zion, Hottscott, and Huey Gang electrified the stage, while Lyric Parker, DJ Ambi, and DJ Jive Fresh hosted the festivities with infectious energy. A standout highlight was the Footwork Dance Fest—a Chicago signature—bringing heat to the crowd.
The “Wellness Corridor” activated the space with yoga sessions, health screenings, boxing demos from Boxing Off The Block, and family attractions like face painting, a dunk tank, and a full suite of games and raffles. The message was clear: healing and celebration go hand in hand.
Day Two: Old School Bands – Friday, June 20th
The vibe shifted to soulful nostalgia on day two, with acts like The Stylistics, Aziza Lisa & The KTP Band, Tamarie T. & Elektra, and Kumpany filling the air with timeless grooves. Hosted by Da Comic, the performances sparked dancing and unity across generations. The addition of line dancing and Father’s Day panels added both fun and reflection to the day’s programming.
Once again, the Wellness Corridor returned with chair yoga, screenings, and community resources, ensuring the event served both the body and the spirit.
Venue Vibes & Community Support
Set at Garfield Park Music Court Circle, the venue’s layout allowed for smooth flow between the main stage, wellness activations, and activity zones. The event was supported by a coalition of community-focused partners including Smart Water, Erie Family Health, West Side Cultural Alliance, and the Chicago Park District.
Final Take:
The 1865 Fest wasn’t just a party—it was a living, breathing tribute to Black excellence and liberation. From youth-led moments to timeless music, the event balanced joy with intention, celebration with service. Chicago showed up and showed out, making this year’s Juneteenth Fest one to remember.
