Disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly is once again at the center of controversy—this time from inside federal prison. According to his legal team, the 57-year-old artist was rushed to the hospital after suffering what they described as a near-fatal medication overdose while held in solitary confinement at the Butner Federal Correctional Complex.
But that’s just the beginning.
In a stunning emergency motion filed this week, Kelly’s attorneys claim there is an active plot to have him killed, allegedly involving federal prison officials and Aryan Brotherhood inmates. They say it’s part of a broader effort to silence him and cover up government misconduct.
“This is not about fame. This is about survival,” said one member of Kelly’s legal team.
The motion includes sworn declarations from another inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, who claims he was approached to participate in the murder. According to the filing, Kelly has been isolated, denied basic medical care, and subjected to psychological torture—conditions his lawyers argue amount to a human rights violation.
Federal prosecutors, however, have dismissed the claims as “fanciful conspiracy theories” and “deeply unserious.” In their response, they argue there’s no legal merit for release and accuse Kelly’s team of manipulating the system in a last-ditch effort to avoid justice.
A court hearing is set for June 20, where a judge will decide whether the claims warrant further investigation—or if Kelly’s team is simply playing a desperate hand.
Meanwhile, Kelly is also seeking a presidential pardon or sentence commutation from former President Donald Trump, according to reports.
